Mutual solubilities of hydrocarbons and water with the CPA EoS

چکیده
The knowledge of hydrocarbon/water phase equilibria is important in the design and operation of equipment for petroleum transport and refining and petrochemical plants. The presence of water in a hydrocarbon mixture can affect the product quality and damage the operation equipment due to corrosion and formation of gas hydrates. Tracing the concentration of hydrocarbons in aqueous media is also important for technical purposes like preventing oil spills and for ecological concerns such as predicting the fate of these organic pollutants in the environment. In spite of its huge interest there was no model able for a qualitative description of the mutual solubility of water and hydrocarbons for a broad range of systems in a wide range of thermodynamic conditions. In this work it is shown that an equation of state incorporating association known as the CPA EoS is able to produce an excellent description of the mutual solubilities of water and several aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons in a broad range of pressures and temperatures. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Phase Equilibria for Binary Systems Containing Ionic Liquid with Water or Hydrocarbons
In this work, the mutual solubilities of sets of ionic liquids ([CnMIM] [TF2N] (n = 4, 8, 12), [C4PY] [TF2N], [C8MIM] [OTF]) and organic compounds (heptane, o-xylene, toluene, or water) are investigated. The experimental data measured for these systems were used to adjust the binary interaction parameters between their components for the Non-Random Two Liquid (NRTL) model. The results showed th...
متن کاملSpectroscopic study of mutual solubilities of water and benzene at high temperatures and pressures.
Near-infrared and ultraviolet absorption of water-benzene mixtures has been measured at temperatures and pressures in the ranges of 323-673 K and 50-400 bar, respectively. Concentrations of water and benzene in both the water-rich phase and the benzene-rich phase of the mixtures were obtained from absorption intensities of near-infrared bands of water and benzene and ultraviolet bands of benzen...

The ionic nature of ionic liquids (ILs) results in a unique combination of intrinsic properties that produces increasing interest in the research of these fluids as environmentally friendly "neoteric" solvents. One of the main research fields is their exploitation as solvents for liquid-liquid extractions, but although ILs cannot vaporize leading to air pollution, they present non-negligible mi...
متن کاملComparison of the Separation Characteristics of Polyvinyl Alcohol Membrane in Dehydration of Benzene and Toluene Using Pervaporation
Pervaporation (PV) is a well-established membrane technique used in separation; especially dehydration of organic solvents. Along with other parameters such as permeate pressure and feed temperature; feed composition is an important parameter, which affects separation characteristics and membrane performance in pervaporation. In this paper, the separation characteristics of a hydrophilic polyvi...
